Hyphae
---
hyphae drip like golden wires
through layered earth, a root desired
to take the life from plant or muscle
or form another strong arbuscule

thigmotropes that feel too much
who shudder from their lovers' touch
and form the skeleton of life
ten thousand trees taken for wife

and whether rot or root decay
the hyphae take the pain away
they wither blooms and bloom the withers
that in the ground were lurking thithers

i cannot say i'd want to share
a bedroom with their spindly hairs
but in my fear of fungal blooms
i sit in hepaed frigid rooms

still renal moats are ever filled in
mycotoxins, penicillin
and oh how lonely it does feel
half made of bone, half made of meal

to think that i can hide from spores
like bullets of our human wars
while underneath my pinky toe
if heat should end, the hyphae grow.
